(RENFREW, ON) - The Renfrew Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) investigated 302 calls for service from Monday August 6 to Sunday August 13.

One male has been arrested and charged after a theft from Premium Vehicle Storage Ottawa. The owner of the business which is located in Arnprior reported to the OPP in June 2018 that they believed a former employee had been stealing money from the business for some time. At the conclusion of the investigation Richard (Dickie) MCLEOD aged 49 of Arnprior was charged with theft over $5,000 and fraud over $5,000. He was released on a promise to appear in court in Renfrew on October 24, 2018.

The female driver had been drinking and was arrested at the scene. Following breath tests at the detachment Nicole CLARKE aged 31 of Ottawa was charged with impaired driving and driving over 80mgs. She was released on a promise to appear in court in Renfrew on September 12. PC Kyle Brown led the investigation.

Break and Enter
A portable classroom at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic School in Renfrew was broken into. The discovery was made on August 7 when caretaking staff discovered graffiti inside the classroom. Provincial Constable (PC) Darin Chaplin is investigating.

A garage on Southside way in Greater Madawaska was broken into between August 11-12, 2018. The homeowner returned to find the detached garage broken into and items stolen. Attempts to break into the home were not successful. Stolen property includes a youth sized ATV, 8000 watt Hyundai generator, a cordless drill and a grinder. PC Dave Peace is leading the investigation.

Fraud
Charges are pending against a male from Renfrew after two victims reported a fraud to the Renfrew OPP. On July 31 PC Dave Peace began to investigate after the victims reported they gave a deposit to a male to paint a barn roof at each victim's property. The suspect never showed up to do the work and phone calls were not answered or returned. PC Peace learned the suspects phone number provided to the victims was disconnected, and a work address provided to the victims did not belong to the suspect. An arrest warrant is being sought for the suspect.

Police are warning residents of Renfrew County that if a caller asks you to pay them with iTunes cards, it is a scam and hang up the phone. An Arnprior resident believed the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) was going to arrest them for taxes owed unless iTunes cards were purchased and provided to them. The victim purchased more than $12,000 worth of cards and then provided the identifying numbers on the back of the cards to the scammers over the telephone. The CRA does not accept iTunes cards as a valid form of payment for taxes owed. The police will not arrest you for taxes owed. These are warning signs that you are dealing with a scammer and not a valid employee of the CRA. Please educate yourself, your family members and friends about frauds and scams. Go to the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre at www.antifraudcentre.ca for more information.

Stunt Driving Charge
On Monday August 6 at approximately 10:25 am Sergeant Derek McLeod stopped a speeding vehicle on Highway 17 in McNab Braeside Township. The motor vehicle was travelling at more than 50 km above the posted 90 km/hr posted speed limit. Paige MALCOLM aged 52 of Ottawa was charged with stunt driving and issued a summons to appear in court in Renfrew on September 14.
