(LAKESHORE, ON) - On July 18, 2019, at approximately 6:45 p.m., the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Essex County responded to a marine incident. Three occupants on a sailboat in Lake St. Clair called 911 to advise the vessel owner/operator had fallen overboard without a personal flotation device. None of the three passengers aboard were able to bring the vessel under control.

OPP Lakeshore officers located the sailboat and gained control. The United States Coast Guard (USCG) located the vessel operator, who had been treading water for approximately 30 minutes. The operator was uninjured.

The OPP would like to remind all boaters to always wear a personal flotation device and take all necessary safety precautions.

OPP Essex County would like to thank the USCG for their assistance in bringing the incident to a safe conclusion.
